In Amalfi, an artistic tribute to the Maritime Republics: four vases installed in Flavio Gioia Square

On the occasion of the 70th edition of the Regatta of the Ancient Maritime Republics, Amalfi has chosen to celebrate the past and tradition through a very special and artistic installation that embellishes the town. Four vases were placed in Flavio Gioia Square, each dedicated to one of the 4 Ancient City States: Amalfi, Pisa, Genoa and Venice.

An artistic tale in ceramics

On each vase are respectively represented elements that tell the identity of each city:

  • The Banner
  • La Figurehead
  • The Duke

The vases“were made by Vietrese master Francesco Raimondi, one of the leading experts in the figurative arts on glazed fired clay backgrounds who, with his workshop, l’Archetto, is now a reference point for many ceramic connoisseurs….” These works become a unique narrative, a ‘work of art that bridges past and present, history and tradition, between Amalfi and its “sisters of the sea.”

Amalfi: art, beauty and tradition

The initiative is part of a broader urban and cultural enhancement, which transforms the square not only into a place of passage, but into a space of reflection and beauty, where history once again becomes a daily protagonist under the fascinated eyes of citizens and visitors.

A work that unites and tells

The tribute to the four Maritime Republics is above all an invitation to rediscover the historical ties between the four City States, once rivals and now united more than ever.

Whether an Amalfitan or a visitor who has come to town for a unique vacation, anyone who can admire these works in Piazza Flavio Gioia is prompted to stop, observe and wonder, because each vase is not just a simple decorative object, but a tale of history, tradition, the sea, power and art, which continues to sail through time.
