Today, Thursday, May 15, the Arsenal of the Republic was the protagonist of a symbolic, artistic and evocative moment: it was held today the first cultural event that officially opens the celebrations dedicated to the Regatta of the Ancient Maritime Republics.
The Exhibition
The first event is a real journey into the memory and beauty of the event: the opening of an exhibition dedicated to the most significant posters of the 70 editions of the Regatta. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to relive past moments related to the history of the Regatta through the evolution of its graphic image.
Enriching the evening was the presentation of the “unique number“, or the publication with which Amalfi celebrates the event, compiled by the Center for Amalfi Culture and History, and of the 8 new costumes of the characters who will make their debut in the historical procession (Saturday, May 17, 7:30 p.m.): a tribute to tradition that is elegantly renewed through careful historical and sartorial research work that enhances the identity of the City.
“These are four knights, called “Milites,” whose figures appear in a fresco in the thousand-year-old abbey of Santa Maria dell’Olearia in Maiori, two merchants, the first belonging to the Amalfi nobility, the other an expression of the so-called “mediocres” class, and two noblewomen: the Ducissa, consort of the duke, patrician and antìpato Mansone I, and the Ducissa Regale, wife of the correcting duke Giovanni I whose visual references come from as many sculptures traceable to that of a Dame di Scala and Sigilgaida della Marra, respectively….“
Arsenal once again becomes the beating heart of culture
The ancient Arsenal, an undisputed symbol of Amalfi’s seafaring power, once again becomes a hub of cultural life and a meeting place between past and present. This first event is not only a preview of the Regatta, but also an invitation to rediscover the value of roots.

Amalfi is therefore dressed for a party, ready to welcome guests, onlookers and fans from all over the world. The Maritime Republics-Amalfi, Genoa, Pisa and Venice-again cross paths between history and sports, culture and entertainment.
