Amalfi more sustainable and more beautiful: cigarette butt binders installed

In the common imagination, Amalfi represents the crystal clear sea, the typical narrow streets full of tradition, history and the scent of lemons, not to mention the breathtaking views that enchant visitors from all over the world every day. But today, Amalfi is also a concrete example of respect for the environment and actions for sustainability. What are we talking about?

Find out in this article!

10 smart “smoker points,” urban ashtrays designed to collect and recycle cigarette butts, have been installed in the city. The project is called Re-Cig, is part of the city government’s broader planning to defend the environment for promotion among the “11 Actions for a More Sustainable Tourism,” and is a new step in a strategy toward a more sustainable and more beautiful Amalfi.

What are smart ashtrays?

These are devices designed to make it easier to collect cigarette butts in a clean and orderly manner. Putting out the cigarette in the right place, a small gesture that can make a big difference in protecting our environment.

Whether you’re sipping a cocktail in Piazza Duomo, strolling through the alleyways, or taking a photo of the Coast’s beautiful panorama, properly tossing a butt is an important, simple and concrete way to help protect the city.

Amalfi has chosen to invest in a vision of sustainable tourism, where beauty and respect for the environment walk together.

Where are they placed?

The devices were placed at the city’s focal points, namely the Marina Grande beach, the waterfront, bus shelters, in Compass Square, at the entrance to the pier, in Doge’s Square and in Cathedral Square.

But the news does not end there: new devices will soon be installed for increasingly sustainable waste collection management.

Will you also participate in this sustainability revolution?

Amalfi welcomes you. You, reciprocate with a small gesture.
