Byzantine New Year 2025 – A plunge into history, amid medieval pomp and rediscovered traditions
Amalfi’s Byzantine New Year
Every year Amalfi celebrates its glorious past with the Byzantine New Year’s Eve: an event that is always highly anticipated and beloved.
The town is transformed into a historical stage, with medieval costume parades, solemn ceremonies and performances enlivening the heart of Amalfi.
A central moment of the event is the solemn investiture of the Magister of Amalfi Civilization, a symbolic award given to personalities who have distinguished themselves in the enhancement of the Mediterranean.
The Byzantine New Year is a journey between culture, identity and memory. It is Amalfi narrating itself, between its Byzantine roots and the contemporary spirit that makes it eternal.

The historic group of Trombonieri of Cava de’ Tirreni, starting from Piazza Duomo, will parade to Piazza Municipio where they will hold their show.

On September 1, 2025, there will be traffic restrictions to allow the event, historical parade and subsequent events to take place.
Temporary closure to transit along the Amalfi State Highway SS163 in the section between Amalfi and Atrani is planned
– 6:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.
– 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
– 9:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The closure of Amalfi’s historic center to traffic is planned:
– 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
– 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
