DESCRIPTION:Amalfi’s Byzantine New Year\nEvery year Amalfi celebrates its glorious past with the Byzantine New Year’s Eve: an event that is always highly anticipated and beloved. \nThe town is transformed into a historical stage\, with medieval costume parades\, solemn ceremonies and performances enlivening the heart of Amalfi. \nA central moment of the event is the solemn investiture of the Magister of Amalfi Civilization\, a symbolic award given to personalities who have distinguished themselves in the enhancement of the Mediterranean. \nThe Byzantine New Year is a journey between culture\, identity and memory. It is Amalfi narrating itself\, between its Byzantine roots and the contemporary spirit that makes it eternal. \nBelow is the schedule of events! \nSunday\, August 31\n-h 7 p.m.\, Amalfi – Largo Duca Piccolomini\nThematic panel discussion by the Center for Amalfi History and Culture.\n-8 p.m.\, Amalfi – Largo Duca Piccolomini\nMagister interview\n-h 22.00. Amalfi – Piazza Duomo\nMario Biondi Concert \nMonday\, September 1\n-h 6 p.m.\, Amalfi – Departure from Valle de Mulini\nParade and Performance of the Flag Wavers and Musicians of the Royal City\n-h 18.30\, Amalfi – Piazza Duomo\nHistorical Procession Parade\n-h 19.30\, Atrani – Church of San Salvatore del Birecto\nMagister Investiture Ceremony\n-h 21.00\, Amalfi – Piazza Duomo\nPresentation of the Magister to the Citizenship\n-h 21.30\, Amalfi – Piazza Municipio\nPerformance by the Pistonieri of Santa Maria del Rovo.\nThe historic group of Trombonieri of Cava de’ Tirreni\, starting from Piazza Duomo\, will parade to Piazza Municipio where they will hold their show. \nTuesday\, September 2\n-h 20.00\, Amalfi – Piazza Municipio\nMedieval evening and performance by the Irno falconers \nTRAFFIC DISRUPTIONS\, MOBILITY INFO AND PARKING.\nOn September 1\, 2025\, there will be traffic restrictions to allow the event\, historical parade and subsequent events to take place. \nTemporary closure to transit along the Amalfi State Highway SS163 in the section between Amalfi and Atrani is planned \n– 6:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. \n– 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. \n– 9:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. \nThe closure of Amalfi’s historic center to traffic is planned: \n– 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. \n– 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
